Our Organic Castor Oil is packed full of essential fatty acids, required to maintain healthy skin. It is mostly composed of a rare fatty acid called Ricinoleic Acid, around 88%. It also contains Linoleic Omega 6 and Oleic Omega 9 fatty acids, which make Castor Oil beneficial to all skin types, including those with oily skin. Castor Oil is non-comedogenic which means it won’t block your pores.
It has a thick, honey-like texture, which is thicker than Jojoba and Grapeseed Oil. It is believed to help protect the skin from environmental elements. The oil is an excellent emollient and can be used as an all over body oil to hydrate and nourish your skin. Castor is a great ingredient to use in your homemade beauty formulations. Due to its viscosity, Castor is typically used in natural cosmetics that require a shine.
Castor Oil is a natural, age old beauty treatment for hair. This rich oil makes the ideal ingredient in an enhancing hair treatment, that can strengthen, improve shine, and condition. Nourish your hair from root to tip.
Our Castor Oil does not contain Ricin. The husks of the seed, which contain ricin, are removed before the cold pressing process. So, don’t worry, there’s definitely no ricin in our Castor Oil.
All vegetable oils and fats are 100% fat and are generally high in calories (on average about 120 calories per tablespoon).
Vegetable oils are often used in food preparation for salad dressings, cooking, frying, baking, sauces and marinades. As a general guide, virgin and unrefined oils have more of the oil’s natural flavour and lend themselves well for use in cold dishes. Refined oils generally have longer shelf lives and may have a higher smoke point and therefore be better for high heat cooking, but this varies depending on the type of oil.
Each oil has its own distinct flavour and nutrient and Fatty Acid composition, so each oil may be used for different purposes depending on your need.
Castor Oil is an excellent treatment for your nails and cuticles. Massage into nail beds to help protect and strengthen.
Eyelashes and Eyebrows
Keep your brows on fleek by massaging a little Organic Castor on them before you go to bed. Use a mascara brush or a cotton bud to coat your lashes too.
Blend with another carrier oil and use as an all over body moisturiser for silky smooth, hydrated skin. We recommend something light like Sweet Almond (#215) or Hemp Seed Oil (#206).
Add a couple of drops of Castor to your shampoo for a shine boost. Why not try making your own nourishing hair mask? Combine 30ml of Castor, 10ml of Argan (#228)/Jojoba (#233) and 8 drops of Peppermint Oil (#107) for a refreshing, moisturising hair treatment. Massage a few drops into your hair and scalp, leave for at least 30 minutes then wash. Top tip – massage shampoo into your hair before you wet it, as this works as an emulsifier and help rinse out the oil more effectively.
Make your own massage blend by combining with another carrier oil and your favourite essential oils. We recommend Sweet Almond (#215) or Coconut Oil (#203). For a stimulating and energising blend, try adding Grapefruit (#115), Orange Sweet (#105) and Lemon (#103) to your blend.
When added to creams and lotions Organic Castor Oil adds conditioning properties intended to leave the skin soft and smooth.
As with any new product always conduct a patch test before first use.
