Hemp Seed Oil is packed with nutrients and is one of the oils that offers the highest content of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids, which are known for their highly moisturising and long lasting effect on the skin.
The oil contains around 50-60% Linoleic Acid (Omega 6) which is good for those with oily skin. It also contains around 15-20% Linolenic Acid (Omega 3). Your skin needs these essential fatty acids to maintain health and vitality. The fatty acid composition means that Hemp Seed Oil is ideal for those with any skin type, including those with mature skin.
Hemp Seed Oil is particularly effective during massage due to its lightweight texture and emollient properties, enabling it to easily glide over the body, leaving skin, feeling, soft and supple. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are thought to increase the skins capabilities at retaining moisture, keeping the skin hydrated and hair in optimal condition.
Hemp Seed Oil is a great choice for facial skincare as it doesn’t block pores and draws moisture into the skin rather than simply sit on top of it. It is considered a dry oil, which means it is absorbed quickly by the skin and won’t leave it feeling greasy.
All vegetable oils and fats are 100% fat and are generally high in calories (on average about 120 calories per tablespoon).
Vegetable oils are often used in food preparation for salad dressings, cooking, frying, baking, sauces and marinades. As a general guide, virgin and unrefined oils have more of the oil’s natural flavour and lend themselves well for use in cold dishes. Refined oils generally have longer shelf lives and may have a higher smoke point and therefore be better for high heat cooking, but this varies depending on the type of oil.
Each oil has its own distinct flavour and nutrient and Fatty Acid composition, so each oil may be used for different purposes depending on your need.
Use on its own as an oil for massage or use to make a massage blend by combining with your favourite essential oils. We recommend Ginger (#118) and Rosemary (#108) for a powerful, warming massage. Dilute at a ratio of 1ml (approx. 20 drops) of essential oil to 100ml of carrier oil. This is a 1% dilution.
This beautifully light oil can be used as a gentle and effective cleanser and make-up remover. Hemp Seed Oil makes an excellent, natural alternative to shaving foam or gel. Why not add a few drops of Peppermint Oil (#158) for a cooling minty blast?
Hemp Seed Oil is good for your hair too. You can use it to condition your hair. Massage a tablespoon of oil into your hair and scalp then shampoo after 10 minutes. Top Tip – add the shampoo to your hair and begin to lather before adding water. This will help emulsify the oil and will rinse out easier.
Hemp Oil is an ideal ingredient to use in homemade formulations such as creams, lotions and balms.
